Pazhaya chalai, the street in Thiruvananthapuram city, in the capital of Kerala, has a peculiar place. Pazhaya (old) chalai, was the first royal road, parallel to the pazhayachalai the King constructed another road. As it was a new road, people called it Puthen chalai (New Chalai). As this place had a number of Viswakarma houses and gold workshops, people usually called it “Kammalar Street”.
